An incredible season has passed at Airdrieonians where we had three managers in the season and considerable change each time but still finished the season less than 30 minutes from the play offs.

There has been a huge amount of change in the last 12 months and not all of it of our own choosing but I am positive when I say that the club is in good shape and we are in a better place than we were this time last year.

We have assembled a team that we believe can mount a challenge this year and while the first team is bolstered by younger players from our development squad, this was always the plan and quite frankly they would not be there if they were not good enough.

I appreciate that we always need the spine of the team to have experience but as long as I am at this football club I will continue to look to the future and never take the short term easy answer.

We will have our own brand of football that we will develop over the seasons and while there will definitely be set backs along the way, we will set out to entertain our supporters who spend their hard earned cash supporting our team and try and pick up new fans along the way.

The future of our Academy is looking bright and the development squad will undoubtedly see some players promoted to the first team this term.

The support we have received from the supporters trust has been fantastic and I will continue to work with these guys with the goal of meaningful supporter participation in the running of the football club.

The local businesses that have signed up to the new partnership scheme is incredibly heartening, you will find them listed elsewhere in this booklet, and it is important that we all support these guys the way they are supporting the club.

Together we are all looking forward to the new season and we need your support more than ever as we embark on our first season back as a full time club, with the support of season ticket holders, local businesses, the supporters trust and people coming along to our games I am positive that we can take our club to the next level.

RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW♦

It is a privilege for me to be writing this note to you after being
given the task of leading the First Team back into full time
football.

Preparation begins early this year with our first competitive
game on the 15th July against Partick Thisle in the revamped
Betfred Cup.

This is going to be a vital season for our football club and
the investment in both our squad and training facilities at
Ravenscraig will need to pay dividends from the get go.

Both Donald Jennow and I are committed to carrying forward the
football philosophies laid down by Eddie Wolecki Black and
this involves a style and tempo which we are working hard to
develop. The standards we set in training are extremely high
and it is our job to take this onto the pitch.

It is our aim to have a young, vibrant squad of players
entertaining the fans as well as winning football matches.

To achieve these goals we need all of your support throughout
the season when things are going well and especially when they
are not.

All players to a man will give everything on that pitch for you,
every week.

ACADEMY♦

During the summer months a lot of work has gone on behind
the scenes to ensure the signing of all youth players went
as smoothly as possible and I am delighted to report that
on Wednesday 15th June, all academy players and parents
attended a signing night at Ravenscraig that went very
smoothly. Once the players signed their form I spoke with the
parents and welcomed them to the club or back to the club for
the new season.

With pre season starting on Sunday, 26th June at Airdrie
Leisure Centre the hard work begins for the next few weeks to
ensure all players are at the standard we require them to be at to
allow them to develop further within the Academy. Matches are
arranged against very strong opposition that will undoubtedly
challenge not only the players but the coaches too. Rangers,
St Mirren and Forth Valley are all performance teams that will
provide this challenge.

Over the past number of seasons the initiative programme has
been regionalised, however it appears to be changing back to
being a National League which will mean all age groups will
now travel to Dingwall, Elgin, Stranraer, etc.

With Airdrie Boys Club coming on board at 2004 age group
I hope all of these new players and coaches enjoy the
experience with us and earn the right to go all the way to first
team level in the years to come. This message obviously goes
out to all players, none more so than 2000/2001 age group as
they will hopefully challenge for a 20s place this year.

Here’s to a very successful year to everyone involved at the club.

A WORD FROM THE TRUST

Over recent years the Airdrieonians Supporters’ Trust has redoubled its efforts to develop a pleasant matchday experience for existing fans, while working to re-engage with lapsed fans and encourage the next generation of diamonds.

The Airdrie Aces specifically caters for younger fans, and we’ve developed a programme of benefits, activities and events on and around matchdays. These include season tickets, trips to away
matches, football coaching sessions, arts and crafts and games before matches and at half time, a Christmas Party and a Ten Pin Bowling night. The Aces now boasts around 100 members, a figure we’d like to grow significantly in the coming years.

We also run the Schools’ Cup along with our partners.

The KitAid campaign we ran the last two year led to 8,000 strips being sent to some of the poorest communities in the world, and almost 800 season tickets being given free to local children.

Besides, we market and run a series of events, such as the Player of the Year and regular question and answers with the club, to strengthen the sense of community among fans. And last season alone, we invested nearly £14,000 in the club - providing
funds for kit and equipment to help with coaching and youth development.

During the coming seasons, we want to build on the work done recently. Our ambition is to have a Supporters’ Trust which champions not only the football club, but the town of Airdrie itself. We are working to create closer links between fans, the club, local businesses and the wider community - building
a true community club that will become a benchmark of good practice.

Our ambition is to have a decision making stake in the club itself, allowing the Trust and its membership to play an active role in the building and maintenance of a sustainable, successful Airdrieonians – something we all aspire to and will benefit from.

We have recently commited to a significant investment in the new
full-time set up at Airdrieonians, and will be sponsoring several apprentices in the coming seasons.

Your investment will help us to fund the communication channels we need to spread our message across, and engage with, the town.

I was going to start a topic on this very subject a few days ago until I noticed that it's not just the BBC looks like if you want a report it's going to have to be on the official site.

Even though there were a few hacks in attendance on Saturday more often than not their reports don't appear online and only feature in their (printed) newspapers (Colin Paterson - Advertiser/Record, being the notable exception).

I did notice on Saturday night/Sunday Sky Sports Football (online) had the result with scorers and crowd figure.

As you say the OS has the report up quickly from J O'B and usually the opposition has something on their site by the Monday.

Watched it on recording later after West Ham game. It was odd that he seemed to think the downfall of Scottish football came from Steve Archibald's time. Indeed he said it was astonishing that even teams like Airdrie had gone to "buy" foreign (i.e non UK) players. If I remember it correctly Archibald did not pay any transfer fees, so did not "buy". Maybe Jim meant he offered wages which we could not really afford or does language mean different things to a former sports journalist? The programme as usual concentrated on the big clubs but some of the football stories and action clips were good. Who was the last player we paid a transfer fee for or did Bosman stop all that from our point of view?
