Prediction League Wk 39 Forfar 0 - 2 Airdrie

By Stomp Admin
April 16 2016

Airdrieonians secured our place in the Scottish first division with a 2-0 win away to Forfar and in doing so dropped Forfar to the foot of the table.

There were some very strange results in todays first division today but that's not our concern. All we care about is the fact we are no longer in any threat of relegation and plans for season 2016 - 2017 can begin in earnest.

Alan Lithgow opened the scoring for the Diamonds on 10 minutes but it was Jimmy Lister early in the second half who secured the points and the win with a goal early in the second half.

Yes it was a relief and deserved as well. Up for the game from the start and had more attacks in first ten minutes than in the whole game at Stranraer, nor many home games.went with Lister and Mackin up front in a 4-4-2; despite a windy scene we controlled most of the game. Good header by Lithgow past a bemused goalie but a lovely pass from Scott Stewart sent Lister clear and he lobbed the goalie from 20 yards. Forfar never threatened and were much poorer than the recent game in Airdrie. Some great counter attacks in second half but no goals and no danger. Some comical stuff from Hugo but he gets pass marks for being a nuisance to all.Lister on top form-oh for a whole season's worth. Save at last/save at last and if Stranraer collapse?

A reasonably satisfactory performance today and a great goal from Jimmy Lister. Although it is still mathematically possible for us to end up in 4th position I doubt if it will happen but you never know. Looking forward to the hopefully interesting happenings in the close season. Re Faria, saw him squaring up to Lithgow at one point - not advisable I would have thought. Must say, I have not been impressed with Faria in any of the games I have seen him in and we have got him for another 2 years. Hopefully the full-time wages may attract some quality for next season.

A good result, well overdue, andI agree about Faria apart from the marking game at Dunfermline he has been very poor,I can not see any reason for him to be on a two year contract,if we don't have any youth players that can do a bit more for the team then we are in trouble. He is so slow ,gives away a good few fouls as well.Saying that very glad we are still in this league maybe help our manager feel a wee bit better.
