Eddie Wolecki Black takes the reins

By Stomp Admin
December 22 2015

On the 28th of September 2015, Airdrieonians appointed our first ever Director of Coaching in Eddie Wolecki Black and anyone who couldn’t see the writing was on the wall for Gary Bollan is more naïve than me!

Eddie came to the Diamonds after leading the Glasgow City ladies team to the last eight of the Champions league, managed Lochee United and had spells at Brechin City, Arbroath and Montrose as head youth coach.

Now he takes the hot seat at the Diamonds with four months of on the job training (whether Bollan knew it or not) at the club and the SFL 1st Division.

Will he have the backing and ability to take Airdrieonians to the heights many fans demand, who knows, but as of the 22nd of December 2015 the Eddie Wolecki Black era has now begun.

There's a lot of abuse flying about particularly on Pie and Bovril.
Here's a novel idea. Why not give the guy a chance before condemning him? Doubt if it will catch on as our fans prefer to moan.
One positive note from the press conference was the Chairman hinting that he was aiming for full-time football.

Happy or sad I don't know time will tell .what I do know there is a few managers out there with a bit more experience but this move like a lot of things nowadays was already in place ,

I'm willing to give the guy a chance, he seems to be of the modern school of coaching, so that's a positive.

I suppose most Arsenal fans hadn't heard of Arsene Wenger when he was appointed so who knows, it may work. Glad that Ferguson wasn't appointed.

He needs to drop one of his surnames. How can you sing, Eddie Wolecki Black's red and white army?

THE CHAIRMAN talks of 'passing brand of football' If I see this from the team I will be pleased as for the last few seasons from Jimmy Boyle onwards I can think of almost all our opponents being better passers even when we did eventually find a good spell under Gary Bollan in season 1 and parts of last season, mainly down to excellent loan players/Docherty last season and Craig Barr etc before that. Can the current squad really replicate that? Lets give EWB a chance. I did smile however at the prospect of another 'Black must go' campaign-hard to work Wolecki into that.

Cinical or sarcastic. Either way, I shall watch this space with a bit of positivity that Black may bring a freshness, new ideas, energy to the team. People shouted for Bollan to go. He's gone. Some made their feeling clear that EWB was not their choice of new manager, but since he now is, I hope every fan gets behind him and the team. it's about time they did.

My report above seems rather cynical and in truth that's exactly how I feel about football in general at the moment, however to counter balance my cynicism. For a while in work we were listening Rock Sport radio and as the Glasgow Ladies team were progressing through the champions league our new manager was interviewed and if he can bring the passion he had for the above to Airdrie and inspire our players then who knows.

Before anyone says anything yes I know women and men's football are different blah blah blah.

Plus for me the challenge for this season hasn't changed a play off spot is the target and it's now over to Mr Black to achieve that.
