By Stomp Admin
September 21 2014

We are delighted to announce that Excelsior Stadium will host the final 2 events in memory of & to fundraise on behalf of Sammy Conn on Sunday October 19th.

A Legends Game comprising of the 92 Cup Final Squad & managed by Alex McDonald have accepted the challenge to play the Swally Fans team who are generously contributing a four figure sum to Sammy's fund for the privilege.

At the moment the anticipated line up of the Legends is :

John Martin Snr
Sandy Stewart
Jimmy Boyle
Jimmy Sandison
Paul Jack
Kenny Black
Marvin Wilson
Evan Balfour
Alan Lawrence
Andy Smith
Owen Coyle

Obviously subject to change however the response from the players has been immense in respect of their sadly missed teammate. Cheers guys

Kick off is 1pm for a 30 min each way game.

There will also be a 2nd game at 2.30 (again 30 mins each way) with a team managed by Sammy's best friend consisting of current Ayrshire Juniors taking on a current Airdrie Select managed by Gary Bolan. The Ayrshire lads are also contributing to the fund.

Admission is £3 Adults and of course kids are free. Hopefully we can have a large turnout to support Diamonds old & Diamonds current! So bring the family along!

However, we are offering another once in a lifetime opportunity to fans........

For a donation of £100 you can join not the fans squad but THE LEGENDS SQUAD with guaranteed playing time.
This is limited to 3 fans only & will also include post match hospitality with your team-mates for the day. PM me if you are interested.

We are hosting a fundraising Sportsmans Dinner in The Rowan Suite with The Conn Family as guests of honour. The Legends Team & Alex McDonald will also be attending. Des McKeown will be hosting, various speakers will be reminiscing about Sammy and we are delighted to announce that stand up comedian Raymond Mearns will do his thing. A night of smiles & laughs awaits as we remember Sammy. A few surpriseguests too hopefully!!

However, we are thrilled and humbled to announce that Evan Balfour has donated his 95 Cup Final kit (including shorts) to be auctioned on the evening and amazingly Gavin Spiers after consultation has donated John Martin Snr 92 Cup Final medal for auction.
Johnny had kindly given Gavin his medal when he retired as a thank you as Gavin & The Spiers family had sponsored Johnny throughout his career. Again showing the mark & the humility of the man.
There will be a MIN reserve price of £1500 on the medal.

Tickets are £30 each & include a 3 course meal. Tables of 8 are available & will include a legend alongside you. Tables will be named after The Legend so PM me your choice & if avail they can host your table.
Individual Tickets & Tables are limited so first come first served. PM me initially to reserve your tickets.

Event starts at 4.30pm til 9pm with tables required to be seated by 5pm.

Don't do facebook, twitter or any form of social media. I know for a fact I'm not the only one. I rely on the official site and the stomp for information. I've been to all of the POTY dinners in recent years and was at the Airdrieonians night last year. I am really disappointed as will a number of others no doubt. Did the trust members know about the event in advance?

It's not been organised by the Trust. This is the sole crusade of one man - Mark Allison - who was responsible for getting Johnny and the Conn family along on Saturday. He's not on the Stomp anymore, but asked Chris and Stuart to pass on details via the Stomp and offical site as soon as it was announced. I sent him a message earlier, and he asked me to post this on his behalf

The Dinner is now sold out subject to one tables confirmation!
Phenomenal stuff.

I will be taking a reserve list however, so please PM incase tickets become available.

Apologies in advance to anyone who has missed this but tickets have been limited as the event is not only confined to the Airdrieonian Family as tickets and tables have been extended to Sammy's friends & family in Ayrshire as well as previous clubs.

This is after all a chance for everyone to remember & raise a glass not only to an Airdrie Legend but the man himself!!

Thank you for your overwhelming support!
