Scottish Football League clubs have voted in favour of a proposed merger with the Scottish Premier League
Although I think Scottish football turned to sh!t when the SPL broke away from the rest of Scottish Football in 1998, i'm not sure moving to a single body is the right option, after everything that's happened in the last two or three years I simply don't trust those at the top of our game to run any sort of organisation, never mind a football league.
Anyway the Scottish Football League will soon be no more.

Whether this is going to be the saving grace of the game in Scotland or the death knell, only time will tell.
I found it strange that the SFL clubs have signed up for this when there are rumours circulating as to poor financial state of the SPL.
Further to this the SPL would not open the books to the SFL or allow an independant audit be carried out but hey ho this is Scottish football and the Croatia result has fixed everything.

Regan and Longmuir will go down in history as the "men" who chucked 120-odd years of history down the drain in an attempt to polish the ever more stinking turd.
Without history and tradition what would motivate the vast majority of football supporters to turn up on a Saturday?

Over 120 years of history just terminated. Have these people no sense of history at all. Surely it would have been possible to maintain the continuity of the SFL and still have achieved the elected outcomes: merger prerequisites. In terms of world football do we now have the youngest league in the world? Our league now has a shorter history that the newly autonomous USSR countries? We wait so long to retrieve the name Airdrieonians then the league itself just votes itself out of existence.
Annan's Chairman was spot on when he said it wasn't a merger it was a hostile take over. JB said he thought it was sad that the SFL was going but it was the only option. Whithin the next 10 years, or less, divisions three and four will be jettisoned and the clubs part of a regional pyramid. Not saying that is a bad thing, just they could have been a lot more honest about it and make the case for that to happen. The could have been a lot more honest about the SPLs finances also and just be open and say it is bust and they need to spread the risk and debt. If the SPL collapses then so does the whole of Scottish football in their eyes. This will not entice people back into the game.
Wonder if this means that Ballantyne will lose his job, maybe he will take a bit more interest in his team is that is the case.
One assumes that "the Blazer" will now require to be returned ??

Regardless of what side of the arguemant you are on - this comment from Hamilton's chairman sums up a lot of what is wrong in Scottish Football

The ultimatum by Division One clubs was if we don't get the result we want we are leaving anyway, thereby indicating they would not abide by the democratic result if it did not suit them.
I agree that the whole situation needed to be reviewed but if that is democracy in action in Scotland.................

I suppose there are three positives:
(i) One body is better than two (though think its the wrong body who has ultimately come out on top)
(ii) Play Offs to SPL (even if little more than token gesture to hold off talk of reconstruction)
(iii) Improved financial model (which Div 1 clubs should now be ashamed about gievn their dis-regard for the Div 2 & 3 clubs)
Overall though the move has come through bullying, threats & brinkmanship and its hard to see the new body genuinely looking after the interests of all 42 clubs. As a previous post mentioned, its surely only a matter of time before "professional" football in Scotland consists of at most 24 clubs with some kind of regional construct below.

It was the 1st Divisions threats that swung it, there can be no other reason for this to be passed. Why would the bottom two Divisions give up everything other than to prevent a Scottish football meltdown. They consigned their clubs to non league anononimity. My great fear is in four or five years time when this comes to pass we will be one of the clubs sidelined. It is not a foregone conclusion we will get out of this league anytime soon.
