Airdrie 1 Vs 2 Dunfermline

Airdrie exited the Scottish Home Coming Cup this evening after a battling performance against Dumferlines twelve men. I'm not offering the referees bias as an excuse just pointing out a fact. We not supposed to abuse officials and instead show them the respect they deserve, well not tonight!

An early goal for Dunfermline from exDiamond Graham Holmes looked to have sealed our fate very early on, I have to admit to thinking there was going to be a repeat of Saturdays match. Holmes goal was a sweet strike from just outside the penalty box that gave Robertson very little chance.

Airdrie however tried to fight back and it was Joe Cardle who gave us the chance to get back in to the game, after being fouled two or three times in the opening ten minutes of the match, Cardle went on a run in to the box, he was upended according to the referee Scott McLaughlin slammed the ball in to the back of the net.

That was more or less the last decision the referee Callum Murray gave us.

The first half turned in to a battle both sides came close to extending the lead especially in the dying minutes of the half, but neither side could make the break through.

The second half was another battle and as it seems always happens some players drifted out of the game and never assisted Kenny Black in his challenge to progress in the cup.

Dumfermlines winner was a lob from just inside the penalty box by Bayne that left Robertson floundering. Airdrie tried to find the equaliserbut it wasn't to be.

<> Agree the referee didn't help, but we should have had that lot finished off by half time. Missed chances at either end in the 2nd half - some really great individual play by us at times, then silly mistakes the next minute.

Have to say, I hope Aberdeen stuff them. <>
