Airdrie take a point away from home.

Airdrie came close to beating third placed Livi in a game that had a little bit of every thing. Once again our team have proven that we have what it takes to survive against teams that want to play football, it's beating the teams that want to kick ten barrells out of us that needs to be improved.
It's sometimes strange watching Airdrie, I sit with people who think we are doing things the right way, keeping possession, passing the ball on the deck, waiting for the right pass to make a difference. But when you listen to some of our fans it seems that some don't realise that if Airdrie have the ball, whether that's at Robbo's feet or up and down the wings then the opposition can't score! A simple tactic in my opinion.
Airdrie were under the cosh in the opening stages of the match but survived, as early as five minutes in to the game the home team had a shot spin of our post, the header from Leigh Griffiths had us worried.
Yet it was Airdrie who should have went in at half time 1 - 0 up. Stephen McKenna took a run in to the Livi box and was simply chopped to the ground, it was the simplest penalty decision I've seen all season. Unfortunatley, Livi goal keeper McKenzie save Simon Lynch's shot.
The second half continued in the same vain, both teams had a couple of half chances but neither team looked like actually hitting the back of the net, was it going to be 0 - 0?
Then Livi should have had a man sent off!
Kevin McDonald lost the ball in midfield and as he tried to get the ball back, he lunging in to a tackle he then lifted his trailing leg to trip Innes, there was no malicious intent, a yellow for MacDonald. However when a defender makes a run from the 18 yard line and (attacks is to strong a word) shoves a player who is still on the ground with his back to the charging player, it's a red card and if the near side lines man had done his job Livi's McPake would have been taking an early bath.
Five minutes later we had the most embarrassing moments you will ever see in a football match, Bobby Donnelly and Callum Elliot went up for a header. As both landed Elliot decided it was time to roll around in the dirt, not once or twice but I counted at least six times, in fact if he had just kept going he could have rolled straight off the park and prevented the game being stopped.
Kenny Black then made his first substitution, Joe Cardle was replaced by Paul Di-Giacomo my initial thoughts were it was the wrong decision as both our wingers had been playing really well. A minute later I was eating my words Di-Giacomo made a mazy run through the Livi defence and his pass was slotted it home by Lynch who made it look easy.

Then it was McDougalls turn to rip the left hand side of the livi defence shreds. His cross found Di-Giacomo in space who had time to take the ball down and score instead his header sailed by the post.
We then went from a masterful substitution that could have won the game, to another that seems to have cost us two points. McLaughlin who had moved to the left when Cardle was taken off, was then sent over to the right when Kenny decided to substitute McDougall for Brown, we lost our shape on the left hand side and Nixon was left with out any support in front of him, a few seconds of uncertainty and Livi had scored, Elliot squared the game and the match ended 1 - 1.
In the end it was still a point gained from a match many people thought we would be lucky to take anything from.

Should have been three, Brown for McDougal killed it

a simple tap in for Lynch Chris...I think it was a great finish...many a times a striker manages to balloon those fired crosses...he slotted it home.

I guess the ones who're not appreciating our impressive passing game are the ones who aren't reading the papers upside down. We're bottom of the league, maybe there's something in it? Weren't we passing the ball well around our own box last time we were relegated and the year we couldn't get promoted via merits? Keeping possession is great when it's working, we weren't so great yesterday keeping possession with 4 minutes left. Sometimes a bit more direct play is needed, our goals scored column would suggest it, KB himself a week or two back said we weren't making enough chances, maybe he thinks it too?

When we were 1-0 up,after having scored a brilliant goal,we should have kept going and went for the killer second.Attack is the best form of defence,or is that old hat?We made the same mistake last time at Almondvale,and were lucky to hang on.Still,it was good to take a point,altho' we should've had three.imho.
When we took Dougall off he moved McLaughlin from the left mid to the right, leaving slapheid as the only protection for Nixon. That for me was criminal as Slappy was way out of position.

I know that this may not have had any bearing on the eventual outcome of the game, but I would rather have any penalties we get being taken by Scott McLaughlin (or Marc Smyth). I know he converted last week, but I really had my doubts about Lynch taking the spot kick. I've never liked to see the person brought down taking the ensuing kick.
That's Lynch missed 2 now is it not? Give the ball to someone else with some confidence.
we are getting results just now so guess we cant be critical about the lone striker tactic( supported by two wingers)
For most of us though bringing in Di Giacamo was a good decision however after Dougall was subbed & they scored it felt like two points dropped.
Not sure about the penalty taker though

Bottom of the league. Scored 16 goals in 20 games (11 in 19 excluding the Morton game). Boring to watch most of the time.
We were dominating the game at Livi with DiG on as a sub and McDougall was a good outball down the right. We become very defensive and invite pressure with no outball and lose a goal.
Weve had better results in the last three games. Last three games scored 3 goals - 2 of which came after we had become more attacking with substitutions and the other a penalty. Our play doesnt have a high enough tempo and our midfield are not attacking enough to play 4-5-1 and get a decent run of results. Unless Kenny can get the players to play at a higher tempo we will struggle.
