Airdrie Vs Dunfermline rescheduled!

Yet again, lack of foresight by those in charge at the SFL. Reschedule yet another Airdrie game to a Champions League evening (Liverpool/Madrid or Roma/Chelsea take your pick) instead of waiting to the following midweek, which is free of any other matches as far as I am aware. Playing the game on Tues 10th or Wed 11th would also allow us to build up a bit of momentum in terms of a crowd for the final on the following Sunday.

Yet another wasted opportunity.

Well with Dunfermline being the opposition there will certainly be a few bangers there!

I can safely say that I can't be at this game. I want to but I'm not even going there.

And if I'm making those choices out of family commitment I can guarantee there'll be loads more doing the same.

I appreciate the club will want the cashflow in quickly but this one is ill judged.

Monday or Thursday would have been far more suitable this week.

Neil, this isn't a challenge of who's the best superfan, just asking again about the wisdom of the schedule. We can continually put down every gripe on here with a "big boy did" type comment but that's not doing anything to about a potential situation where we have another absolutlely minging crowd.

I guess I'm demographically challenged now.

But Why Should we as in Airdrie, worry about firework displays and games involving clubs who have nothing to do with us which are 10 a penny on the tv anyway?

You miss the odd game Neil when the Allstars have a cup game. It wouldn't be right if you asked your missus to take the team so you could go to see Airdrie take on Alloa would it?

You know how many games I miss during an average lifetime Neil, Tuesday night I'm not making the choice this time, it's important family time and we all have to make these choices for them. As I said, I might just have unwittingly slid into the wrong demograph for the club/football industry?

Thing is, the demograph they think they want aren't interested!

How many times in the past 10 years have SFL clubs went head to head with Satan's Champions League. You know I wouldn't sit in on a cold wet Tuesday or Wednesday night to watch Man Utd v. Barcelona rather than take in a Lanarkshire Derby but we can both see that plenty others do.

My question is, Does the club have a reaction to this rather than run head first into it then complain later that we don't love them enough?

It's a commitment i'm willing to make, the prestige of the SAFA cup helps our club a lot.

We are in agreement that we each choose what takes priority but I fail to see how the club can justifiably sit down and reschedule a fixture round something that has hee haw to do with the Scottish First Division

There are tons of things to do on a saturday, should we be moving KO time to avoid the matinee at the pictures?

the CL has 6 rounds with 16 games per round missing the odd game here or there wont kill folk, like I said i'll watch the highlights on ITV after the dunfermline game, just hope that feckin tannoy man doesnt tell us the scores at HT and FT the git

Neil, the club, and the SFL's heirachy, obviously have to make decisions to play their games but collectively they have to find a "place" that's going to optimise the attraction of their product. You've got to know your market.

At present there is no TV coverage. There is minimal radio coverage. The papers that give the league any coverage only give minimal amounts of space. There are no panini stickers, no free posters in the papers or magazines, nothing. Where is the breath of publicity?

It won't take a study by the football business unit at Stirling Uni to figure out that clubs of our level suffer badly at the gate on CL nights. To couple that with an annual local attracton won't help. I hope it isn't a disaster but for a Dunfermline game it will be flat.

Good luck to us, I hope I'm wrong and am the only person who will miss this game that would normally be there but I can't see it. There will be 10000 at Central and Dunbeth Parks regardless of Airdrie playing.

Also, re. the CL coverage it brings back memories of a better time when there could be no live TV coverage of games when there were other fixtures on. I think that old rule had a real purpose.

though for the life of me and cant fathom out why someone , anyone would choose to stay in and watch the tellly rather than go to a game a home game of the club they support, however each to there own

personally i think we will miss more through the gate due to shiftwork than CL watchers

Perhaps because we are losing fans like snow off a dyke and appear to be doing nothing to encourage them back?

Its the usual head in the sand stuff. "I'm an amazing supporter and everyone thinks like me. However if for some unknown reason they don't then they get to and take their money with them."

Two tuppence worth, I think the game has probably been re-arranged so quickly as it will give fans who live outside the area two chances to pick up cup final tickets, to reserve seats on buses and to avoid a rush on Sat.

1099 for Dunfermline according to the beeb???? We're struggling to be the third side in our own town.

The crowd was no surprise. I agree it wasn't the best night to play the game, and I'm sure the crowd would have been bigger on another night.

And for what it's worth, we had a braw view of the fireworks in the main stand!

Hence why I suggested that it was crazy to reschedule the game to tonight when there were so many other attractions on. 1,099? Christ we used to get that size of crowd to watch the reserves on a Monday night at Broomfield.
