Leigh RMI caretaker manager Mark Patterson has expressed his desire at wanting to become the permanent man in the Hilton Park hotseat.

Former Bolton Wanderers and Sheffield United captain Patterson has expressed his enthusiasm for the club and 'would love' to take the RMI manager's position on a permanent basis.

Patterson acknowledges that the work to done to steer RMI clear of relegation back to the Unibond is "one hell of a challenge" but Patterson has said that he would love to make the RMI job his first permanent position.

Patterson's first game in charge as caretaker manager came at high flying Doncaster Rovers on Saturday and a hugely improved Leigh performance saw RMI only fall to a late goal.

Patterson's fate will be decided by the board in a meeting with Patterson following tomorrow's Conference game away to Halifax Town. Should RMI again show an improved performance then Patterson could certainly get a chance to prove himself with a longer contract.
