Two goals in as many second half minutes for hosts Garforth saw Alan Kershaw's Leigh Genesis side return over the Pennines empty-handed having earlier looked good value for a point at Cedar Ridge.

With the two previous meetings between the sides this season bringing scores as diverse as a 1-0 Leigh win in the league and a 5-0 Garforth win in a bizarre FA Trophy tie, there was little guidance for which way the game might go, with Leigh featuring debutants Adam Parkhouse and Dave Dempsey.

Garforth took the lead on twenty nine minutes with a strike from Ben Small, but Leigh were level just seven minutes later when James Kelly scored his first goal for the club, and it was certainly one worth waiting for as he rattled a thirty yard strike past goalkeeper Matt Higginson.

The sides were level at the break but the hosts struck twice in the fifty fourth and fifty fifth minutes with one from Paul Walker and another from Small to tie up all three points in this re-arranged Evo-Stik League First Division North fixture.
