After scoring a hatful of goals in recent encounters, Genesis hit the ground with a thump in windswept rural Lancashire, conceding a late goal to lose to AFC Fylde after previously coming back from a goal down.
Just four minutes of the second half gone, the hosts took the lead when Scott Sephton was caught out by a long ball from Fylde centre back Dougie Shaw, allowing Alex Porter to get in behind him and cross from the left hand side for Joe Booth to convert at the back post.
Leigh thought they'd equalised five minutes later when it appeared that Chris Thompson had fired a Jack Dorney lay-off past Dave Stevenson from six yards out, only for the ball to hit the wrong side of the net after it flew past the post and rebounded off an advertising hoarding.
Genesis goalkeeper Stephen Drench was called upon to make an excellent save from a speculative Porter shot from distance, before Dale Whitham saw a shot well saved for a corner, while Matt Jansen half-volleyed over the crossbar after an excellent Stepien run.
The introduction from the substitutes bench of Jamie Baguley injected a bit of life in to the Leigh side, and with just ten minutes remaining of the game, they thought that they'd claimed a point when Matt Jansen judged a wonderful Baguley ball to perfection before looping a beautiful strike over Stevenson and in to the net.
Leigh's tails were up and, with substitute Tom Ince added an extra degree of pace, looked to push for a winner, only to be hit with a hammer blow at the other end with only four minutes remaining when a Porter corner was hooked in at the back post by Fylde substitute Matt Walwyn.
Giant centre back Jonathan Smith was brought from the bench to play an impromptu role as a target man up front, but Leigh paid the price for failing to respect possession throughout the game and drop to sixth position ahead of Harrogate Railway Athletic's visit to the Leigh Sports Village Stadium on Wednesday evening (7th October, 7:45pm kick off).
