Atherton Laburnum Rovers vs. Leigh Genesis preview

After a successful return to league action with a 6-0 win over rivals Prescot Cables at the weekend, Leigh Genesis are back in cup action tomorrow night when they visit neighbours Atherton Laburnum Rovers in the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy First Round.

Leigh were originally drawn at home in the competition, but Laburnums have kindly stepped in and will host the game at their Crilly Park home on Tuesday (29th September) evening with a 7.45pm kick off.

It is Leigh's first competitive visit to Crilly Park since the hosts had a short-lived spell in the UniBond League in the mid-1990's, though they did visit the town as recently as last season, when cross-town rivals Atherton Collieries were defeated 2-0 at the same stage of the same competition. Last season's cup run lasted just one round further with a 3-2 defeat to Radcliffe Borough, but with last weekend's resounding 6-1 UniBond League Challenge Cup First Round victory over Warrington Town under their belts, Garry Flitcroft's side will be confident of progressing in the county cup.

While Leigh go in to the game with a huge amount of confidence with twelve goals scored in the past two games, Laburnums find themselves in seventeenth place in Vodkat (North West Counties) Premier Division after suffering a 3-1 home defeat to Newcastle Town at the weekend. However, they have enjoyed a certain degree of cup success already this season, impressively defeating UniBond League First Division North side Prescot Cables 1-0 in the FA Cup at Crilly Park in August.

Crilly Park is situated just a couple of miles from the border with Leigh, and can be easily reached by public transport, with the regular 582 service running close to the ground (alight outside the Speedy Hire depot and walk down Car Bank Street, taking your first right on Greenside, with the ground coming in to view as you walk beneath the railway bridge).

Kick off is at 7.45pm on Tuesday evening, with admission costing £6 for adults and £3.50 for over 65's and under 18's.
