Third time lucky for Collieries cup game?

By Matt Lawton
November 19 2008

The twice-postponed Lancashire FA Co-Operative Challenge First Round clash with neighbours Atherton Collieries has been rescheduled to take place at Alder House this coming Monday (24th November) with a 7:45pm kick off, with Lee Merricks and his side hoping it will be third time lucky that the game will take place.

The First Round tie was originally planned to take place on Monday 10th November but was postponed because of problems marking the pitch, while recent wet weather meant that the Alder House pitch failed an inspection last Monday (17th November).

Should the fixture be postponed for a third time next Monday, it will take place the following Wednesday (26th November) with a 7:45pm kick off.

As county cups take priority over league cups in terms of fixture scheduling, the UniBond League Challenge Cup fixture away to Ashton United, originally scheduled for Monday 24th November, will now take place at a later date that is yet to be confirmed.

Can understand why it was last week as Colls had a home game in the rain when we played at Whitby, so I dare say that won't have done much good to the pitch. Just hope they aren't using it this weekend.

You'd best get down to Alder House and keep an eye on the pitch then mate.

Its looking like a frozen pitch is possible

If we all bring a kettle of full water we could throw hot water over the pitch and thaw it out.

Might incurr extra costs on Colls lecky bill though

and then the pitch would be wet so its a loose loose situation

Hot water may or may not work - they tried it on Hilton Park once but it was so cold that it ended up even worse and being postponed for being a frozen lake!

Seems the UniBond website has pre-empted a Leyth defeat!

Colls game will be replayed on Wednesday and, if it fails a pitch inspection, they'll try again on Thursday. What happens after that is anybody's guess!

Like Leigh, Barrow is traditionally in Lancashire, so that explains their membership of LFA and therefore the Trophy, no idea about Kendal though!
