Former Bolton Wanderers and Southport winger Stuart Whittaker has ended his second spell at Leigh RMI without making a competitive appearance since returning to Hilton Park during the summer after signing for UniBond League Premier Division outfit Marine.

Following hot on the heels of former Vauxhall Motors man Thomas Rooney, cousin of Manchester United and England striker Wayne, who left the club last week to join Cammell Laird after failing to appear in the first team since joining RMI, Whittaker has also left Leigh after struggling with injuries, with his final game of the club ironically coming against Lairds in a pre-season friendly.

Whittaker is one of three new signings, with Jason McAteer's old club also signing Shaun Tuck and Stephen Wynne, prompting Marine boss Alvin McDonald to comment that "the signing provides a good balance of age and experience. The new players give me more playing options and their arrival adds some depth and numbers to the existing squad. I am pleased that all three have decided to join Marine and there timely arrival will make a difference."
