This Monday sees the continuation of the tradition of a hectic footballing weekend over the August Bank Holiday period when Gainsborough Trinity are the visitors to Hilton Park for a 3pm kick off. RMI boss Stuart Humphreys goes in to his second home game in charge of the club on the back of a terrific run of form in the early period of his managerial career at Hilton Park, claiming five points from his first three games at the helm, including an unexpected 1-0 victory at Nuneaton, whilst managing to avoid conceding a single goal during that period.

Visiting Gainsborough go in to the game in fine form as they ride high in the Conference North, fourth in the table ahead of Saturday’s encounter, though they’re tied on points with leaders Worcester City and are only behind on goal difference, with Gainsborough falling to their first defeat of the season when Worcester were the visitors to Lincolnshire on Saturday afternoon.

Several members of the RMI side, including player-assistant manager Andy Roscoe, have a certain score to settle with Trinity after they were disappointingly knocked out of last year’s FA Cup by Gainsborough at the third qualifying stage in a replay after a winner couldn’t be decided in the original tie at Hilton Park, putting paid to RMI’s dream of a money-spinning cup run to boost last season’s coffers.

Leigh have no major injury worries to concern themselves with, despite the short turnaround from Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Moor Green, although there is certainly a degree of concern about the fact that Chris Simm is the only RMI player to have actually hit the net this season, with the striker claiming all three of his side’s goals so far, though the likes of Scott Willis and Lee Shillito always pose a threat around the opponent’s penalty area.
