Why do Wales players refer to Mike Ruddock as bus? Because he isn't the coach. Obviously tongue in cheek, but Scott Johnson's impact in three years as Wales's skills coach cannot be underestimated.

Johnson is a crucial cog in the current Welsh setup, any such move would be a massive step in the wrong direction.

No coach has succeeded in the manner the Depardieu doppleganger has, in re-igniting the general skill level of the Welsh national team.

What's more he oozes self belief a contagious confidence. Following Wales's thrashing at the hands of New Zealand prior to the 2003 World cup, Johnson claimed Wales would be one of the best in Europe within two years, a laughable statement in the context of the day, but eventually a true one none the less.

Mike Ruddock wants the proper structure in place before signing a new contract, Johnson is far too free-spirited for that, but the WRU should do all they can to tip the balance, but should he be offered Eddie Jones's vacant Wallaby post, then at least find someone suitable enough to fill such a massive void by scouring the World.
