West Brom have tonight (9th July) rejected a written transfer request from their Welsh international midfielder Jason Koumas. Manager Gary Megson had wanted Koumas to sign a new contract before the start of the new Premiership season. Koumas is currently in his third season with the Baggies. The Welsh international is a firm fans favourite and even took the 'Player of the Year Award' in his first season with the club.

Tonight Megson said "His transfer request has been flatly refused.

"We want Jason to stay here and continue progressing as a player, as he has done during almost two years with us."

The news of Koumas's transfer request will most likely alert Chris Coleman's Fulham, who have been linked with the striker all week.

Albion chairman Jeremy Peace tonight said "We have received a written transfer request from Jason which we have turned down.

"We're interested in getting him to sign a new contract which suits both him and the football club - not selling him."
