Bednar back on form and raring to go

West Bromwich Albion striker Roman Bednar returns to the place of his Baggies debut this afternoon a reformed character. In November 2007 a riding high West Brom were struck by injury crisis up front after in form duo Ishmael Miller and Kevin Phillips were ruled out. A relatively unheard of Roman Bednar stepped up to the mark at Home Park and scored both goals in a 2-1 victory over Plymouth.

As a lone striker Bednar went on to have a cracking first season for Albion, netting 16 goals in his first 19 appearances and holding the fort in their promotion winning season in the absence of Miller and Phillips.

Bednar went on to become a fans favourite at the Hawthorns until his career came crashing down around him after a popular Sunday news paper broke a story seemingly exposing his involvement with drugs.  The hype surrounding the story resulted in an FA ban for Bednar, and he has struggled to make a come back for the Baggies under new boss Roberto Di Matteo.

But the striker has worked hard to reverse his fortunes, and after a miserable start to the season he has now well and truly reaffirmed his place in the starting XI with 5 goals in 6 appearances.

Bednar is determined to look forward and leave the past behind him.  His recent spell of form has revivied his passion for the game and club, and he is now as determined as ever to press on and get the Baggies back to the Premiership.
