Baggiesworld proudly announced its association with the West Bromwich Albion Blind Football Team last Month - and this month we deliver our first set of match reports from the National Blind League side. It was mixed fortunes last weekend for Albion, who played a set of 4 matches notching up 1 win, 1 loss and 2 draws - but still hold hopes of bagging the title at the end of the season.

The following match reports and photographs have been provided exclusively for Baggiesworld by Albion's goal keeper Mark Evans.

Matches took place on Saturday 30th January 2010:

Match 1: WBA v Worcester:

Starting line up - Mark Evans (GK), Simon Hill (C), Adam Young, Ian McNamara, Andy Bryant. The starting line up remained the same for all four games. Due to the frozen outdoor pitch all games were played inside and only 20 minutes long with no half time change around.

Simon and Andy created chances throughout but we were undone by a lapse in concetration at the back and Worcester scored from 4 yards out. Worcester were handed 2 penalties, the first was for giving away 4 fouls (3 free kicks as normal but from the 4th foul onwards penalties are awarded) this was saved by the keeper - myself (Mark Evans) then towards the end Worcester had the chance to put the game out of reach with a jubious 2nd penalty, the referee judging the keeper to have left the area, this one was put high over the bar but with time running out we were unable to break Worcester down to get the deserved equaliser.

Final Score: WBA 0-1 Worcester

Match 2: WBA v Everton:

On top from the start in this one, restricted Everton to very few attacks of which none resulted in any shots to test the keeper. The goal came from Simon Hill about half way through the game after picking up the ball about 8yds out after it had bounced around off the Everton defence, a right foot rifle was released into the top corner with Tony Brown-esque venom, the Albion defence quelled any threat posed from Everton coming forward resulting a clean sheet for the Baggies

Final Score: WBA 1-0 Everton (Simon Hill)

Match 3: WBA v Hereford:

Early Albion pressue was unable to be converted into goals as nothing seemed to go the way of the strikers, especially Simon Hill. Hereford made a few breaks and managed to get a good shot away but it was superbly saved by keeper Mark Evans looking to keep a 2nd consecutive clean sheet for West Brom. Shots from Andy Bryant and Simon Hill later on were close but not close enough to find the back of the net in a well fought stalemate.

Final Score: WBA 0-0 Hereford

Match 4: WBA v London:

Albion were faced with a stubborn London side offering nothing in the way of attack. The only thing that the Baggies could find between the posts was an in form London keeper. Albion peppered the goal and woodwork but walked away dissapiointed with both Adam Young and Ian McNamara pushing forward from the back for the majority of the match. 3 clean sheets in a row for Albion who will be looking build on this in the last set of league fixtures on Feb 27th and are still in with a shout of retaining the league title. Simon Hill (calf against London), Andy Bryant (face against everyone) and Adam Young (knee against London) all picked up slight knocks during this round of fixtures but nothing serious enough to keep them out of the next round which could see the return of Darren Harris.

Final Score: WBA 0-0 London

got respect for these guys. Ive tried this with the college and its hard, all about trust and with my mates not good cause they will let you fall and all sorts haha! but seriously these guys do a good job and people dont relaise (me included) how hard it is until you actually try it. I know its diff as we are only blindfolded but you soon see how much hard work it is. Respect to these guys to be fair!
