West Bromwich Albion have signed 21 year old Giles Barnes on an 18 month contract after seeing him impress throughout January. Having been released from Derby County in December, the then free agent Giles joined the Baggies squad to train and keep fit throughout the first few weeks of 2010, and he has done enough to convince Di Matteo that he is worthy of a chance in the squad.
Barnes is still working his way back to full fitness after suffering an achilles injury in August. Derby County released the youngster in December after he had failed to feature for County this season. But Di Matteo is sure that taking a chance on Barnes will pay off in the long run.
I didnt even know Derby had released him and he had been training with you lot. But could be decent if gets his fitness levels up and actually stays fit
