West Brom v Crystal Palace - Preview

Top of the table West Bromwich Albion take on a 16th placed Crystal Palace side that have failed to make much of an impression in the opening weeks of the season. This afternoon’s fixture at the Hawthorns is a must win for the Baggies with their nearest rivals Newcastle United making the long trip to strugglers Ipswich Town.

Albion will be without winger Jerome Thomas who is serving a ban for the red card he received during the 2-0 defeat to Arsenal midweek in the League Cup.  Roberto Di Matteo also has injury worries over Chris Brunt as well as Marek Cech and Joe Mattock.

Palace could be without defender Claude Davis, as well as loanee striker Freddie Sears who has an ankle injury.  Victor Moses is expected to have recovered from his knee injury in time to feature this afternoon.

Palace midfielder Shaun Derry looks set to make his 500th appearance for the club at the Hawthorns this afternoon, although the odds for success to mark the occasion don’t look good – with Crystal Palace having won only one in the last nine visits to the Baggies.
