West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Mowbray has this morning been linked with the vacant managers position at Celtic after the departure of Gordon Strachan over the Bank Holiday weekend. Mowbray is fondly remembered at Celtic from his playing days, and could tick all the boxes for the SPL club.

Mowbray still has two years left on his contract at the Hawthorns, and with his third child due in July and his outward desire to take West Brom back to the Premier League, it is unlikely that he will consider relocating at this present time.

Nonetheless, being linked with such a high profile job will come as a compliment to Mowbray, who has earned himself a reputation for playing real football since his arrival at the Hawthorns two and a half years ago.

Mowbray is well liked at Celtic Park, not just for his captaincy days on the playing field for the Scottish club, but for the way he coped with the pressures of his first wife's battle against terminal cancer, during which he played for Celtic in between providing 24 hour care for his wife.

Burnley's Owen Coyle is also linked to the managerial job at Celtic, but it is widely believed that he will prefer to stay at Turf Moor - having just seen his Burnley side promoted to the Premiership.  Mick McCarthy likewise is in the same boat with Wolves, so it is no surprise this morning that the leading candidate to replace Strachan is Motherwell boss Mark McGhee.
