Gaffer questions clubs spending ability

Depending on your level of optimism you could say West Bromwich Albion have entered uncertain (or certain!) times. Relegation from the Barclays Premier League is by no means a certainly, but even the most hard core Albion fan must have been forced to admit to themselves this weekend that the situation is less than favourable.

West Brom boss Tony Mowbray has been defiant in his belief that Albion can still pull it off.  But that hasn’t stopped him getting in a dig at the way the club handled promotion from the Championship last season.

Chairman Jeremy Peace is to be admired for his certain things.  It was admirable of Albion to freeze season ticket prices at Championship prices last season despite it being clear from March onwards that Albion were Premiership bound.  He has also secured some decent wads of cash for outbound players.  But Tony Mowbray believes that the policy towards inbound players at the Hawthorns has had a major effect on their survival chances.

Despite forking out for several players over the summer break including record signing Borja Valero; Tony Mowbray has questioned the clubs commitment to establishing themselves in the Premiership.  Commenting after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Bolton Wanderers Mowbray said: We are a team who have come up into the Premier League. Yes, we have spent a few quid, but we have never spent £10million on a footballer.  “So every week, whether it is Bolton or Manchester United you are facing, you are playing against some pretty high-quality players that cost a lot of money.  I don't think it is a level playing field, yet I don't see the gulf on the pitch."

Most Albion fans would agree that a commitment to spending money has been absent this season.  But then the majority would also agree that what has been spent has not necessarily been put to best use

I have to agree with him. BUT.... What he has had, he has wasted i'm afraid. Why buy the likes of Bednar, Dorrans etc ? When you are only going to play loan players. One a youngster who seems we rely on totally. And the less said about 4 million + for Valero or 3 + million for Moore.

And I wonder what the likes of Moore or Valero would fetch into the club if they were to be sold now?

I can't believe Mowbray has had a dig at the club about not spending. Where did you get the source or info from ?
