West Bromwich Albion’s season has been anything but predictable and boring so far. Scoring goals almost for fun they have become the division’s leading scorers, and I’m fairly certain that ask any Baggies fan if come a month to go in the league promotion would still be in their own hands, they would say more out of hope than certainty was that possibility.

But how many Albion fans hand on heart could have predicted this one?  A second appearance at Wembley in eleven months, and odds on second favourite to lift the FA Cup as winners? 

Nonetheless, that is the reality facing West Bromwich Albion if they can overcome the competitions sole Premiership survivors Portsmouth in the semi final at Wembley this weekend.  Overcoming Pompey will be no easy task that’s for sure, but there can be some solace to be found at least in knowing that January signing and on form striker Jermaine Defoe is cup tied. 

Albion will play Cardiff City tonight, one of their rearranged fixtures affected by the FA Cup run.  But preparation for the league has taken precedence over the cup, leaving the Baggies with just one day to prepare for their semi final clash. 

Tony Mowbray has tried to focus all attentions at the club on the league, although has admitted that talk about the FA Cup has been almost impossible to quash.  Players have been busy trying to collect tickets for friends and family as well as keep their heads focused on the promotion push. 

Today Mowbray has some tough decisions to make, not just in relation to league fixture team selections, but also for this Saturday.  We will aim to bring you team updates for both this weeks fixtures as soon as possible.

I would have said promotion is more important than the FA Cup. Then we reached the semi final, and now the thought of lifting that trophy for the first time in 40 years is very very exciting.
