A night of mixed fortunes last night at the Hawthorns by all accounts. A point is probably not what the Baggies needed. A double injury is what they needed even less. But on the brighter side, Kevin Phillips did notch up his 20th goal of the season in all competitions. Yet, despite this, the striker still does not know if he will be playing football for the Albion next season.

Mowbray last night praised the 34 year old striker, who celebrated scoring his 200^th career league goal.  But today the former England International revealed that contract talks at Albion had so far proved to be unfruitful, with many issues arising. Phillips told the Express and Star: 

“Talks are continuing but we’re at a sticking point at the moment. We both have different views.” 

It is believed that one of these ‘sticking points’ is over the proposed length of the new contract.  Another seems likely to be over the concerns of Phillips’ health, having suffered more than one set back with his knee already this season. 

But Phillips has warned West Brom that he will not be rushed into signing anything, and does not see his age as in issue for staying at the Hawthorns or moving on elsewhere. It is an issue both parties will be glad to see the back of.  And Albion will be all too aware that with the end of the season approaching a string of other clubs might begin to express an interest in the striker. 

But for now at least he remains a Baggies player – assuring all fans that his heart and his mind are well and truly focused on the promotion push. 

Meanwhile, Tony Mowbray sweats it out as he awaits news on injured duo James Morrison and Chris Brunt – who both withdrew from last night’s game against Palace with injury. 

Having already lost Teixeira for the rest of the season, Mowbray and his staff will be hoping for better news this time around. Chris Brunt has had his hamstring injury confirmed this afternoon, and is likely to miss a couple of weeks whilst he recovers. 

Morrison on the other hand will have to wait to have the extent of his injury confirmed – although we do know that the player was withdraw from play after going over on his ankle awkwardly.
