Albion And Wolves Hang on in there with 3pts a piece this weekend, as high flying Blues go 10pts clear at the top. Albion move into 8th position, as Wolves also move upto 10th. 10pts and 11pts behind respectively. Early last week I did something unusual for me. I had a moan. Well, not necessarily a moan as such, more of a rallying call. After another disappointing weekend of football I decided it was high time the Midlands paid back its loyal supporters with a bit of success. Well, it may only be one weekend of success, but for that weekend at least it seems like some higher force had listened to me.

Saturday afternoon – the usual doom and gloom lifted by the fact that both Wolves and Albion had won for a change! And with some other results going pretty nicely in both our favours. More to the point, both teams had an added extra to celebrate. Wolves had won away from home, a pretty rare occurrence these days, and Albion absolutely stormed their way to three points by knocking five past Coventry at the Hawthorns.

West Brom’s third successive home win saw them move to 8th in the Championship table, 10 points behind leaders Birmingham City. It took the Baggies just 60 seconds to score their first goal. Kamara then scored again on 33 minutes, which was shortly followed by a goal on 39 minutes from Jason Koumas. 3-0 at half time and the Baggies were flying. Goals from Phillips and Robinson on 57 and 83 minutes respectively sealed the 5-0 victory. It was a victory that certainly pleased Albion fans, and hopefully has set them on their mission to achieve promotion. Mowbray seems very clear on what he wants that’s for sure: "What I want is a team that fights and plays for each other, covers for one other and enjoys each other's company."

Wolves on the other hand moved up to 10th place, 11 points off the pace in an ever so slightly less eventful match at QPR. Michael Kightly scored Wolves only goal of the day, and his first Championship goal after moving from non-league Grays. Kightly certainly impressed, and had more than just the chance he converted on 49 minutes. McCarthy certainly seems impressed with the new striker: “He looks a good acquisition. He is on loan from Grays and I would think we would sign him permanently. He looks like he is going to score every time he gets into the box and he is taking his chance.”

So, a much brighter weekend for both Albion and Wolves. And long way it continue!
