Hot on the heels of last week’s announcement for 85cc Supermoto bikes, Moto GB are pleased to announce another exciting development for Youth Supermoto racing in 2006, this time for the 125cc two-stroke / 250cc four-stroke class. All machines in the 125cc two-stroke / 250cc four-stroke class of the UK Youth Supermoto Championship will run Maxxis Supermoto tyres, although pattern and compound will be at the rider’s discretion. The rider who in the opinion of the organisers qualifies for ‘rider of the day’ will win a new set of tyres at each round of the series, whilst the overall 2006 Youth 125/250 Champion will win a sponsored tyre deal in 2007 from Maxxis UK SM distributors Triple A Racing.

Southern Supermoto’s David Venditti commented, “We have looked how successful a single make tyres series can be – the Australian National Supermoto Championship for example is run exclusively on Maxxis tyres and it’s a huge success. Teams were initially nervous in adopting one make of tyre, but those fears soon disappeared when everybody saw exciting the racing was! At a higher level, WSB [World Superbike] has also proved that a single make tyre series provides close and exciting racing with no team having any distinct advantage. This is exactly what we need in Youth Supermoto racing, and we’re delighted to be leading the way for the development of the sport in Great Britain.”

As previously revealed, Southern Supermoto will promote and organise the twelve-round UK Youth Supermoto Championship for Moto GB in 2006. The series will visit several exciting and diverse venues, including amongst others; the fast European Supermoto style Lydden Hill Circuit near Canterbury, and the technically challenging Llandow Circuit in South Wales.

To participate in the UK Youth Supermoto Championship, competitors will need to join the Southern Supermoto club and then apply for a Moto GB competition licence. 2006 membership forms and Moto GB licence application forms are now available from both Southern Supermoto’s own website and the Moto GB website.
