It has been known since the midway point of last season that the Williams Formula One team are after Toyota power. After an agreement wasn’t reached last season, Sir Frank Williams has again been on the phone to Japan requesting a supply of Toyota engines for 2007. At the moment, Cosworth power is used in the back of the current Williams F1 car, and although it has been rumoured to be one of the fastest, the Grove base team only signed a one-year contract so they could join up with a manufacture in the long -term future.

According to Speed TV, Williams have already held talks with Toyota and now the final decision is down to the Japanese manufacture. If Toyota agree, its been mentioned that that they will be rebranded Lexus, which is Toyota’s luxury brand.

This of course would spell the end of Midlands supply of Toyota engines, leaving them out in the cold, but with Toyota able to plug their luxury label for less with Williams, its possible the deal is set in stone.
