Fernando Alonso fought off a brave attack from Michael Schumacher, in an outstandingly fast F2005, to take the win at Imola today.

Michael leapfrogged many places in the pitstops, to loom in on second place man Jenson Button and overtake him after pressurising him into the back of a Williams.

After Schumacher's second stop, Fernando was the one to retain the lead, only to win by a mere two tenths of a second.

BAR's Jenson Button and Takuma Sato by finishing third and fifth respectively. The teams first points, and finish of the season.

Alexander Wurz was the second stand-in in a row for JPM, with a fourth place finish. Kimi Raikkonen retired from the lead on lap nine with a mechanical problem, after pulling away amazingly from Alonso and Button.

Jacques Villeneuve surprisingly put in a great show, bringing his Sauber home in sixth. Team-mate Felipe Massa finished twelfth behind rookie Vitantonio Liuzzi.

Toyota's string of podium finishes were put on hold this weekend, only managing to score 3 points with Jarno finishing seventh followed very closely by team-mate Ralf Schumacher. Jarno was leading a whole pack of cars in the early stages of the race, in third place.

Jarno manages to retain second in the championship and so do his team, being followed closely by McLaren 4 points behind.

Both Toyota engined Jordans finished, in 14th and 15th respectively
