13-15 August – Hungarian Grand Prix, Hungaroring, Budapest

Da Matta: “2003 was the first time I had ever been to the Hungaroring and I have to admit that my initial impressions of the track were not good. In my mind, it didn’t seem right to be in an F1 car and not go any higher than second or third gear, but I soon found out that there are a lot of intricacies during the lap that you have to get right to set a good time, so technically it is quite a challenge. The track surface is very dusty for the whole weekend, even on the racing line, so it is easy to lose control of the car. Overtaking is not in abundance either, although modifications to the first corner for last year’s race helped. It is certainly not a track you can learn in one race weekend.”
