Leroy Rivett's two tries helped Leigh to a routine victory over Chorley Lynx after a scrappy performance from the Centurions in the Arriva Trains Cup at Hilton Park. Leigh began the game well enough, taking the lead after ten minutes when Rivett went in at the corner for his first try of the afternoon. Former Doncaster Dragons and Warrington Wolves centre Dale Cardoza, an injury doubt before the game, then extended Leigh's lead when he ran clear of the Chorley defence on the half way line and went over at the Railway End for a try converted by John Duffy. Former Huddersfield Giants hooker Paul Rowley then extended Leigh's lead with a try which was again converted by Duffy.

It seemed to be all going by the script and Leigh's way before Chorley pulled a try back.

As the second half begun, Leigh struggled to break through the stubborn Chorley defence before former Oldham Roughyeds forward Bryan Henare finally broke Chorley's resistance to go over for his first try for the Centurions. Rivett then scored his second before Chorley began an amazing fightback which saw them score four quick tries, including one by Leigh folk hero Timmy Street, returning to his old stomping ground for the first time.

Leigh could've scored a lot more tries but unnecessarily forced stupid passes which went either straight into touch, to a Chorley man or just slowed down the attack.

The Centurions certainly seemed to have a bit of a hangover following their stirring effort in the 20-20 draw against Salford City Reds last week. Leigh will certainly have to improve for their friendly against Super League outfit Castleford Tigers next week.
