No More Black!

The Cardiff Blues shirt for the 06-08 season's is set go down in club history. The kit, made by sponsors Canterbury could well be the first shirt to not contain any black in the history of any Cardiff side to play at the Arms Park.

Cardiff, still known to many world over as the Blue and Blacks are set to scrap the latter from their new regional shirt.

The new home and away kits are set to be released in June, and news coming out of the Arms Park is that it will be only blue and white on the home jersey. If true, it's a bold move that runs completely against the tradition of all Cardiff sides, and cuts off ties to any club history as region bids to make its own.

The rebranding of the region since its origional birth has so far included making the 'Cardiff' word in the Cardiff Blues logo smaller than before, and the inclusion of Ponty and Valleys sides into the 'Blues news' section of the match day programme.

A little known fact is that the first Cardiff RFC shirt was an all black jersey, with a white skull and cross bones motif in the middle on the front. But the feirce and 'intimidating' kit was scrapped after a single season, when players wives complained they didn't want their husbunds associated with pirates!

The following year, they played in a blue and black sequin shirt, much like the one the Cardiff RFC play in this year.

Since then, Cardiff changed from squares to hoops, but the club colours remained the same.

The contraversial shirt will be the second made by New Zealand based rugby specialists canterbury following this seasons kit. They took over from Fila, who has 4 years with the RFc and Blues teams. Below, some Cardiff home kits can be seen.
