Nelson Piquet Jr made his Lucky Strike BAR Honda debut at Jerez today, running for 41 laps in difficult conditions. The reigning British F3 champion drove the 2004 model BAR 006 during the afternoon session, sitting out the morning session that was affected by adverse weather. A meeting with the barriers at the penultimate corner late in the day caused sufficient damage to bring a premature end to the Brazilian's day.

Piquet's best time of 1:20.852 compared favourably to Anthony Davidson's 1:20.310. BAR's pace was, however, considerably off the that of Sauber's Felipe Massa who managed to lap the circuit some 2.6 seconds faster, setting a time of 1:17.501. Ex-BAR pilot Jacques Villeneuve struggled in the sister Sauber, propping up the time sheets with a 1:21.051, just under two seconds behind team mate Felipe Massa.
