We hear from a reliable source that at a time the Brackley based BAR outfit is proudly announcing its driver line-up for 2004, Jenson Button is still awaiting payment for his services this season, a year in which he has added a further 12 points to the team's five-year tally of 62. In the summer the team faced exclusion from the French GP when its cars were impounded as a result of legal action taken by Monaco-based businessman France Corbeil who claimed the British outfit owed his company several million for a deal dating back to 1998 when Craig Pollock was in charge.

Having publicly dumped Jacques Villeneuve, thereby incurring the wrath of the Canadian's worldwide fan-base, Button's fans will be disappointed to hear that the Brackley team is essentially in breach of contract with the youngster and owes the former Williams and Renault star what an insider described as "a substantial amount".

It's widely believed that Honda was the prime architect in replacing Villeneuve with Sato, and if true was surely helped along with the injection of a sizeable amount of Yen, hopefully some of this will now find its way into young Jenson's bank account.

We understand that there is no issue with Villeneuve's salary and that after this weekend's GP all dealings between BAR and the Canadian will be at an end.
