Flexibility in circuit construction is being demonstrated by the organizers of the Indian Grand Prix. Not only do they listen to advice, they respond with alterations to encourage overtaking.

India’s first taste of Formula 1 will arrive in late October 2011. The project is being headed by Vicky Chandhok - father of former HRT race driver Karun Chandhok who by the way is the President of the Federation of Motor Sports Club of India.

FIA race director Charlie Whiting who recently inspected the venue is extremely glad to see that the FIA’s  recommendations to a few areas to encourage overtaking are altered from the original design.

India will be the first circuit in the world to have faster corners into a shorter apex which are achieved by widening three corners to create a short apex at turns 3, 6, and 11.

These alterations came about from a panel that included Michael Schumacher and Alexander Wurz of the FIA Institute who recommended it.

The changes have been simulated to attain data that will hopefully allow and encourage more overtaking.

Not being contractually bound the Jaypee Group (the construction company) instantly agreed to the improvements. They will change the profile of all three corners. Construction is already underway.

The track is 50 kilometers from Delhi, and will be just over 5 kilometers in length. It’s a Hermann Tieke design, and will cover an area over 875 acres.

The track will also host one or more Moto GP’s.

It’s estimated the 16 cornered circuit will create the average speed of 210 kmph with the back straight allowing F1 cars to reach 320 kmph making it one of the worlds fastest.

Spectator capacity will be at 150,000 fans. The construction cost will be near 200 million pounds.

Terrible, it looks just like any other "tilke' track. Whats Bernie's love obsession with this guy anyway? Seriously, how many tracks are designed by him now?

good news for us, sessions, though am not sure whether i could attend.

just as i said in the ferrari forum, radical designs of tracks minus friday practices will create more suspense on track conditions and setups.

The operative words in the above are "FINALLY (SOME) ADVICE" with the emphases on SOME.
At least alterations to mostly boring Tilke tracks is happening. Three turns re-designed to encourage passing by F1 driver input is a beginning.

Rome wasn't built in a day, as they say......

I totally agree where you are coming from, a step in the right direction is better than a step backwards. However "Rome" wasn't built solely by one man (The Herminator) either, I'd really love to see the exact nature of the business deals between himself & bernie. Maybe that way I would understand better if Bernie is being

A - Lazy. Cannot be stuffed finding another designer whom would do the same or gasp shock horror, a better job.

B - Greedy. Has some sneaky vested interest in Tilke being nominated as designer that sees him making $$$ off the deal somehow.

C - Obtuse. I.e there is no logical reason why Tilke keeps being used to design new tracks, but he just does, just because Bernie said so.

Plenty of other possibilities but I'd really like to see the reason why we have what 5??? tracks now that the cars race on, all designed by ONE person. Odd...
