Samuels Heads To Court

Former Celtic Warriors owner Leighton Samuel continues his court case against the WRU over the closure of the Celtic Warriors. For details and reaction read on.

Former Celtic Warriors owner Leighton Samuel will take the first serious step in his legal action against the Welsh Rugby Union on Friday.

The action follows the demise of the regional rugby side - formed from Pontypridd and Bridgend players - almost a year ago.

The union bought out Mr Samuel's share and the club subsequently closed.

BBC Wales understands Mr Samuel is alleging misrepresentation of sale. The union is understood to dispute this.

Mr Samuel's barrister and the barrister representing the Welsh rugby union will talk to a High Court judge via a telephone conference on Friday morning in a meeting called a "case management conference".

This will enable the judge to decide how the case should proceed.

Mr Samuel maintains he was given assurances the Warriors would remain in business if he sold his 50% share in the region to the union.

Well it would appear he means business, Im not sure what consequences a successful court action could bring but at the least its yet another embarrassing debacle for the WRU and Mofett to endure, couldnt happen to a nicer bunch of people.
