RCT Ravens to be Reviewed? |
|
The Unofficial RCT Ravens website understands that the
launch party, scheduled for Monday 16th / Tuesday 17th June has been
postponed and whilst no official reason has been given we understand that
the name RCT Ravens is under review and there may be further re-branding
taking place before a suitable name is agreed upon.
The RCT Ravens name was announced at the end of May by Leighton Samuel, one of two directors of the company believed to be called Ever 2003, the company behind the RCT Ravens. However, since the name has been announced there has been widespread dismay from many Pontypridd supporters who feel that the name does not represent Pontypridd yet the Ravens tag clearly identifies Bridgend as part of the region. Whilst the town of Pontypridd is situated in Rhondda Cynon Taff (RCT) there is no link between Pontypridd RFC and RCT other than a geographical one. So, many supporters hold the opinion "Why should Bridgend have their nickname linked with the region yet Pontypridd only have the area in which they are situated linked with the region?" Pontypridd supporters have voiced their concerns over the "RCT Ravens" brand and it looks as though their concerns have been heard by the newco although there has been no official reason for the postponement of the launch. If the reason is to review the name then couldn't all this have been avoided by consulting the supporters and seeking their views sooner. Pontypridd have a huge fan base and the Bridgend support is steadily increasing so it is important not just for the newco but for Welsh rugby that all these supporters get behind the regional team. Unfortunately, there was a long period after the announcement that Pontypridd and Bridgend would join together where supporters were told nothing and as a result many supporters lost interest in the whole concept of regional rugby in Wales. Then all of a sudden, towards the end of last season there was a competition to name the regional team - the only chance supporters have had to give their views. All entries were to be sent either to Pontypridd RFC or Bridgend RFC with the winner receiving a singed shirt from the newco. So, who actually won this competition and if the name was selected using the competition entries, was the winner a supporter of Bridgend as I can't imagine any Pontypridd supporter opting for the name "RCT Ravens". We want to hear what you think of the "RCT Ravens" brand. If you are a supporter of Bridgend or Pontypridd what do you think of the name? OR If you support another team, would you know what RCT stood for without being told and would you relate the name RCT Ravens with Pontypridd and Bridgend? |
