MICHAEL OWEN DEPARTS?

The Bridgend and Pontypridd regional team face a massive blow if the rumours are confirmed regarding Michael Owen moving to the Gwent Region. Owen, 23 who has played first team rugby for the Sardis Road club since the age of 18 is believed to be negotiating a deal with the Gwent province for a move there next season.

Owen has formed a vital part of the Pontypridd pack over the last few seasons and his ability to play in the second row and the back row makes him an asset to any team.

The question that most people will now be asking is why Owen, a Pontypridd boy is prepared to make a shock move to another region when being a Wales international he would be guaranteed a place in the Bridgend Pontypridd setup. The only conclusion we can draw from this is that if the move goes ahead it must be for financial reasons.

Unfortunately it looks like Owen may not have another chance to play for Pontypridd after damaging knee ligaments in the 36 - 31 defeat by Swansea last weekend possibly ruling him out until the end of the season.
