GRITTY V CITY

Friendly. Wednesday 16 July 2003, Glebe Park, Brechin. Brechin City 0 Montrose 0. Montrose hold their newly promoted neighbours to a creditable no-score draw. So the inevitable finally happened. The appearance of Grant Johnston on the Brechin City subs list before kick-off was depressing to say the least.

Brechin started like they meant business and the Montrose defence weathered the initial storm well. We even began to make some chances of our own and Craig Smart was popping up regularly on either side of the penalty area.

In the second half, with the addition of Webster and particularly Wood up front for the Mo, we began to put increasing pressure on the Brechin defence and brought out a couple of good saves from their keeper.

Wood certainly looks like a class act when he's running at defenders.

With substitutes coming and going like there was no tomorrow, Brechin eventually found a useful way of breaking up the inside left channel and began launching diagonal balls over the Mo defence, but they couldn't finish the job, and Hanky played well between the sticks to keep them out.

Not a bad result and performance and a big change to that of Monday night. Who knows, we might even get a win in the next fortnight!
