The BBC's current 4 year deal which has treated the Welsh Premier with utter contempt, thankfully expires in the summer, and officials and fans across the country will be praying Sky's offer is accepted by the FAW, as it is rumoured they are keen to introduce a half-hour preview show on Friday evenings and an hour-long highlights programme on Sunday afternoons. With the BBC we are lucky to receive 2 minutes  'highlights' on 'Wales on Saturday' each week.

If Sky do win the rights then Welsh Premier clubs will have to improve their grounds up to UEFA standard, with Sky providing £1.5million for the improvements. It is unlikely that that would be enough to fund every club to meet the new standards, but is at least a big step in the right direction.

A Sky spokeman told the Non-League Paper "With the way things stand, the Welsh Premier has little chance of improving. But if this deal went ahead, clubs would at last have the opportunity to do something about their plight."

Let's hope Sky win the contract and stick to their word. This might just be the start of a new era for the Welsh Premier League.
