The FAW have appointed Merthyr Tydfil manager Andy Beattie as Welsh semi-pro manager. The FAW had last week named Caersws' Mickey Evans as the new boss - a position that the Bluebirds manager subsequently turned down. Beattie, who managed Barry Town to an historic Welsh Cup final win over Cardiff City, guided the Martyrs to the Dr Martens Western Division title last season. Merthyr have found life back in the Dr Martens Premier Division hard going, and there have been reports that Beattie was considering his future at Penydarren Park.

Beattie has appointed his number two at Merthyr, John Relish as his international side-kick too. Earlier this week, T.N.S. manager Ken McKenna offered his services for the job, but the FAW opted instead for Beattie, who seems the ideal choice with his knowledge of both the Welsh Premier and the exiles' leagues.
