By Welshpool set to appeal relegation

Welshpool are set to appeal their relegation from the Welsh Premier at the league's annual meeting at Aberystwyth on June 7th, a move which has been backed by 12 of the top-flight clubs. Welshpool have forced an extraordinary general meeting of the Welsh Premier league to be called as they make a last-ditch bid to preserve their status, according to today's 'Western Mail'

The club finished the season one place off the foot of the table with only Llanelli below them. But they believe with just one club - Porthmadog - possibly being promoted they should remain and keep the status quo of 18 clubs in the league.

League secretary John Deakin confirmed it would be held on the morning of the league's annual meeting at Aberystwyth on June 7. But Deakin added the rules at present state two clubs will be relegated whatever the situation of promotion. "This is something that will now have to be debated," said Deakin.

Welshpool were successful in an appeal to win promotion to the league only last season after intially being refused entry to the Welsh Premier as their ground was deemed to not meet the required criteria. However, the club were successfully admitted into the league at an appeal but have found their first season back in the top-flight hard going.
