Rushden and Diamonds achieved their biggest away win of the season on Saturday on a superb Aggborough pitch, home of old Conference rivals Kidderminster Harriers. A Paul Hall brace ensured a 2-0 victory. There were no surprises in the Diamonds line up, with David Bell once again awarded a central midfield starting role. Andy Burgess was not in the squad despite travelling to the match.

The Harriers team included resident gypo impersonator Bo Henrikson but not lanky striker Drewe Broughton, who missed the game through suspension.

The excellent away support were rewarded after only 15 minutes when Lowe set Hall free to score his first of the afternoon. His low shot ended up in the bottom left corner of the net, in front of the silent Kiddy fans. After the goal the Harriers had a few chances, one of which was pulled wide by the long-haired Henrikson.

Following the interval, where we were entertained by some schoolboy football (leading to unconfirmed rumours that Kettering had changed leagues), the game became more open. Kiddy were denied three times by Turley when they should have scored. However, credit goes to the Rushden keeper who kept the lead alive. The game was dead and buried on 69 minutes when Hall finished after a Lowe free kick was fumbled by Stuart Brock.

The win meant that Diamonds close the gap to top-of-the-table Hartlepool to only two points and reach Brian Talbots 50 point target with 19 games still to play....
