Robbo has been part of the backbone which has seen Spurs contend for a Champions League position last season. He has been fantastic for England during the World Cup campaign that has seen him cement the number one jersey firmly onto his back. As the worlds press says a not so fond farewell to Sven Goran Erikson, and Beckham hangs up his armband. I had one eye firmly fixed on a forth European campaign and I really felt that all the Spurs players involved with England, and more importantly Robbo, needed to have a good experience on the worlds biggest stage. We all know Robinson is a professional and its not like the rest of the Premiership based players had a good tournament, but Robinson will no doubt want to forget the penalty shoot out quickly and get on with playing for Spurs.

Using the World Cup as a way of getting some experience out side of the Premiership also raises a question about the ability to handle pressure and putting in a performance when it counts. Like most of the articles I write this will sound gloomy but I want to make one thing clear, I’m a big fan of Robinson. But I cant help thinking there is a huge question mark over the ability to handle pressure on a bigger stage outside of the Premiership. Yes other players looked poor and off sorts but I’m not concerned with Terry and co.

Only time will tell when we kick off our European tour this season, to weather Robinson has got over the World Cup disappointment and showing he can shine on a higher level (to which we know he can). Both of which I really hope can be huge positives when he is playing behind King and Dawson and the familiar surroundings of White Hart Lane this season.

What’s key is a very special welcome home from Spurs fans so he can banish those Quarter Final blues. . .
