We are still at war with Chelsea and it would seem the two sides are still way apart in valuation for the loss of poor old Frankie.
There have been various and often wild speculation in the press about the demands of the club and whilst I bought into the Parker deal, I'm quite sure we are not asking for £15million. However if it was true and we could get our hands on that kind of cash it would be a fantastic coup, but we need someone in to spend the cash......and fast.
Since Frank has left a nice clear desk it would seem we have lost our way in the transfer market, if the press are correct. Peter Crouch, Kevin Phillips to name two players linked with Spurs in the last week or so, which scares me half to death even if I do think we could do a darn lot worse than Crouch at the moment, he is a player still developing and should do well at whatever club he goes to (except Villa). Kevin Phillips looks like he is a frightened rabbit caught in the headlights most of the time, so no thanks. We have had our fair share of rumours as ever and I still believe we should be ignoring most of the press and just sit and wait to hear from the club. Which makes me think how on earth can we be targeting players at this moment in time? That was the job of the Sporting Director/Head Coach. I'm sure Jol would have had a hit list of players he would have liked to have at the club and some of those players would have already been talking to the Spurs upon
Franks departure, but without the rest of the jigsaw in place then negotiating would have been impossible. Which is why I think we will be left
high and dry on the best of the free transfers (ala Van Bommel ) without someone to prod and poke the transfer market with a very large stick, and
not to mention some other fee based transfers too.
I'm sure you are sitting in your chair saying hey we need to slap Chelsea about a bit and yes, I know we need to take Chelsea to task. But a new
Sporting Director has to be #1 priority at the moment, the Chelsea negotiations for me are #2 as we cannot miss out on some top transfers this
summer if we are to progress. I think we need two fast wingers, left back and right back, oh and a new striker would be nice Mr Levy. If we don't move swiftly, we could have yet another ordinary season in the middle of the table. Now that's a grim thought considering all the talk of a European place this season.
Starting the season without some new players and the continental system back in place would be a disaster. Chelsea can wait, so lets get a new Sporting Director in as soon as possible, leave Frank on garden leave until the transfer window closes, then deal with it.
