Reid was one of the major factors in Phillips decsion to stay at Sunderland this summer after it is rumoured he came very close to signing for Spurs.

To the fans and several players dismay, 'dodgy' manager Howard Wilkinson was appointed.

Glenn Hoddle has been a long term admirer of Phillips and will be monitoring the situation very closely.
