Cotterill And Burrows Are Linked

Former Cheltenham Town and Stoke City Manager, Steve Cotterill and former Swansea City Manager, Frank Burrows have been linked with the vacant managerial position at the Vetch.

Cotterill is currently working for Leicester City as a coach after being sacked as Assistant Manager of Sunderland in his previous post.

Before that he spent a few months at Stoke City guiding them into mid-table of the First Division.  But his best managerial stint came at Cheltenham Town where he took the Robbins from the Conference into the Second Division.

And Jenkins admitted, "Steve Cotterill is one of a number of people on a list that we are considering talking to.

"He's coaching at Leicester at the moment and in some quarters he's held in high regard."

Jenkins went on, "There are many people we could consider for the job, but we've got a short-list of six to eight people.

"Ideally, we're looking for someone with experience. Someone with a good track record in the Football League. I don't think we'd go down the road of appointing a player-coach with no or little previous managerial experience."

Burrows is a well respected manager who has had the Vetch Field manager's job previously, guiding them to the Auto Glass Trophy victory in 1994.  He is currently employed by West Brom as Assistant Manager.

"He (Burrows) carries a wealth of experience and is doing the business at the top level," said Jenkins.

"We're interested in anybody of that calibre, but he's one of many possibilities and we won't rush into making a decision."

Former Swans and Cardiff City player Andy Legg has been linked to the Assistant Manager's post following Kevin Reeve's departure.  Legg, now at Peterborough started his career at the Vetch Field.

There are believed to have been around 30 applications for the job so far but bookmakers Jack Brown have made Steve Cotterill favourite at 4/6.  He is followed by Peter Nicholas at 4/1, John Aldridge at 5/1, John Cornforth at 6/1, Leighton James at 8/1, Alan Cork at 10/1 and Andy Legg at 25/1.
