The Robins top scorer for the last 2 seasons has signed a 2 year contract with Division 3 Rivals Oxford United. He has joined on a Bosman free transfer. Probably for non football related reasons tall striker Julian Alsop was not offered a new deal at Cheltenham. The striker who scored 26 goals in are promotion campaign was not offered a new deal by Bobby Gould and signed for Oxford on a Bosman free transfer.

Alsop who is reportedly not happy with the board of Directors at Cheltenham would surely have been a main player in are hopes to win back promotion to the Second Division. He was also top scorer in are Division 2 campaign with 10 goals in around thirty starts.

On signing for Oxford he told the Official Oxford site 'I've spoken to a couple of clubs but having come here and seen the ground I think this club wants to go places' he also said 'Im confident in my own abilities. I've always scored goals and want another promotion'. Did he not think this was possible this season with Cheltenham?

Alsop is the second new signing in two days for Oxford after the signing of midfielder Derek Townsley from Hibs, no doubt that Oxford will be one of the clubs challenging for honours next season.

Also another player released by Cheltenham to find himself a new club is Neil Howarth who has signed for professional Conference outfit Telford United.

My feeling are that we should have done are upmost to keep 'Big Jules' at the club as he has 2 expereinces of Division 3 promotion under his belt having also been promoted with Swansea City prior to joining us.

All at cheltenhamtown.tk wish both players well with there new clubs but not against us Jules! Famous last words!
