Singing fans head for the singing section, not the rioting section you hooligans, the singing section! The drum is probably being moved here, the most raucous part of the ground... Towards the end of last season the Board of directors took the decision to allow Town fans in the South Stand or ‘away end’ of the McAlpine Stadium.



The exercise was to get fans on all sides of the stadium to stimulate maximum support for the team. The success of this was perhaps illustrated best on the last home game of the season against Port Vale.



However, due to stewarding problems and concerns from the police and authorities, this movement of fans was only allowed for a select number of games.



An alternative home for the more vocal supporters was sought and was found in the southern end of the John Smiths or Kilner Bank Stand.



That section of the McAlpine has now affectionately become known as the Singing Section and season ticket sales in that area have been tremendous.



“We have had a great response to the sale of season tickets in that area of the ground,” stated director, Paul Haigh earlier. “We have increased numbers of fans in that part of the stand already and we expect much more to be sold in the 5 days after the new manager is announced.



“We hope there are lots of raucous supporters heading in that direction so we can really raise the roof next season. We are looking at relocating the drum in that area to stir up the more vocal fans and to avoid being a nuisance to others.”
