At stumps, Glamorgan were three down for 69 to trail by 46 after being asked to negotiate 28 overs at the end of another long day in the field.

Notts paceman Paul Franks took out both Glamorgan openers in the eighth over of the innings with only 22 on the board. First Ian Thomas (13) nicked one behind to wicketkeeper Chris Read and then Daniel Cherry went for five in identical fashion.

At 22 for two Glamorgan left themselves a mountain to climb if they are to secure their fourth championship win of the season. But Notts' Greg Smith also found the edge, this time to remove number three David Hemp (25) in the 24th over, and the visitors will resume with their backs against the wall.

Michael Powell remains undefeated on 18 and nightwatchman Michael Kasprowicz on four not out.

Glamorgan were desperate to restrict their hosts' innings after being skittled for 213, with Notts resuming well-placed on 133 for two. But by the time Kasprowicz had at last made the breakthrough for Glamorgan, ending Usman Afzaal's 265-minute stay in the middle for 88, Nottinghamshire had moved on to 235 for a first-innings lead of 22 with eight wickets still in hand. Afzaal had been prepared to let partner Guy Welton press on, the latter reaching his first hundred of the season off 220 balls.

Next man Nicky Boje was bowled first ball for a duck, also by Kasprowicz, to leave Notts on 235 for four. But then Simon Jones got Welton to nick one behind into the gloves of keeper Mark Wallace in the 82nd over.

That left Notts on 255 for five and after Kevin Pietersen had raced to 31 off 34 balls he hit six fours he was next to go, offering no shot to Kasprowicz. That became 289 for seven when Kasprowicz produced another sizzling yorker to knock over Franks' stumps and then Darren Thomas returned to the attack and had Richard Logan caught behind by Wallace with the score on 302.

Chris Read departed for 24, caught by Cherry at backward square-leg off Jones, and Andy Harris went for a duck lbw to the same bowler two balls later to leave Notts all out for 328.
